Privacy notice

This is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, ask us.

Where we got your email address

Mostly from your own website. We look at the businesses returned for a trade, and read a handful of published pages on each – the contact, home, about and team pages. If an address is published there for people to use, we may write to it once.

For some businesses, where the only address published is a shared inbox, we may also use a business contact provider that holds published business contact details. If you want to know which applied to you, ask us and we will tell you.

We do not buy consumer lists, we do not email private individuals at home, and we do not guess addresses from a pattern.

Why we are allowed to write to you

Our emails go to businesses about something relevant to that business — whether their domain can be impersonated — which UK law (PECR, and the legitimate interests basis under UK GDPR) permits without prior consent, provided we identify ourselves, give a postal address and offer a way to stop. We do all three in every email: replying with the word STOP blocks your address the same day, automatically.

If you are a sole trader or a partnership you have stronger protection. Tell us and we will remove you immediately rather than argue about it.

The demonstration email

If you choose to run the demo, we send a single email to your own address only — the address we already wrote to — with the “From” line made to look like your own, so you can see how a forged message arrives. It is never sent to anyone else, and the demo can only ever reach the address on record for the link in our email. We do not keep the contents of that message.

What we hold

If we emailed you
Your business name, domain, the published email address, the result of the public email-settings check we ran, and whether you replied. Nothing personal beyond a work address.
If you ran the check or demo
The domain concerned and the fact that a demo was sent to your own address. No account, no password, and no card details ever reach us here.
If you asked us to stop
Your address on a suppression list, kept indefinitely. That is the only way to be sure we never write again, and it is used for nothing else.

How long we keep it

Prospect records are deleted within 12 months if you never replied. Check records expire after 30 days. Suppression entries are permanent, on purpose.

Who else sees it

Our email is sent through Google Workspace and our websites are hosted in the UK and EU. If you buy a report, payment is handled on the ProNet Cyber site by Stripe — we never see or hold your card details. We do not sell or share anything with anybody else, and there are no advertising trackers on this site.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Email [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days, usually the same day. If you are unhappy with how we respond you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
